Obituary for Shirley A. Welker

Shirley A. Welker, 66, of Mooresville, died in her home on Wednesday, April 6, 2011. She was born in Hurricane, West VA on September 9, 1944 to the late Cyrus and Rosemary (Sowards) Sowards. She married Howard D. Welker on March 4, 1961.

She has lived in Mooresville since 1963 and previously in Hurricane, West VA for 19 years. She was a self employed Interior Designer for 20 years and was previously an employee of the Town of Mooresville. Shirley was a member of Life Tabernacle Church, loved cooking and gardening and was a former member of the Mooresville Planning Commission.

Shirley is survived by her husband; 3 children: Sandy (Jim) Kovach of Columbus, IN, Robert (Tracy) Welker of Martinsville and Kenny (Christy) Welker of Martinsville; 7 grandchildren: Katelin Kovach, Chris, Elijah, Evie, Lena and Karina Welker and Sophie Merriman; 3 brothers: Frank Sowards of West VA, Delma Lee Sowards of West VA and Greg Sowards of Plainfield; sister, Darlene Starner of Fl. She is preceded by 2 grandchildren: Abigail Ann Welker and Victoria Ann Welker.

Calling will be 2-6pm, Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Jones Family Mortuary and also 1 hour prior to the funeral. Funeral services will be at 2pm, Monday, April 11, 2011 at Jones Family Mortuary with Danny McAdams officiating. Burial will be in White Lick Cemetery.
