Obituary for Morris D. Cohen

Morris Cohen, 74, died June 7, 2008 in Mooresville, IN. He was born on July 16, 1933 in Centerton, IN to the late James Raymond and Bessie Mae (Whaley) Cohen. He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1951. He was an Army Veteran. He married Evelyn M.(Harper)Cohen and she survives. He lived most of his life in the Brooklyn/Mooresville, IN area.

Morris owned and operated Cohen Construction in Mooresville, IN for 40 years. He also worked in Maintenance at Bradford Woods in Martinsville, IN for several years, retiring in 2004. He officiated football, basketball and baseball games all over the state for over 50 years. Mooresville Junior Football League has just been renamed Morris Cohen Junior Football League for his dedication and involvement in the league and the youth of this community. He was also one of the founders of the league.

Survivors include his wife; Evelyn M. Cohen of Mooresville, IN; son, Steve Cohen of Mooresville,IN; daughters, Karen (Cohen) Haase of Mooresville,IN and Melody Collins of Centerton, IN; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren;1 brother, Richard Cohen of Mooresville,IN;2 sisters, Maxine Cohen of Martinsville, IN and Shirley Hancock of Indianapolis, IN. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Bob and Larry Cohen; 1 sister, Ruth Messmer; and 1 great granddaughter, Hannah Brianne Collins.

Visitation will be from 3-8pm, Tuesday, June 10, 2008 and 9-10am before the 10am funeral service on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at Jones Crossing Banquet and Event Center. Bill Robinson will conduct the funeral. Burial will be in Centerton Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made to Morris Cohen Junior Football League (formerly: Mooresville Junior Football League).
