Obituary for Lester Bowling Sr.

Lester Bowling Sr., 89, of Indianapolis, IN, died on December 16, 2011. Lester was born to Woolery D. Bowling & Nannie (Couch) Bowling on March 20, 1922 in Bowlingtown, KY. He married Virginia (Barger) Bowling on October 4, 1947.

Before retiring in 1980, Lester was a Fork Lift Driver for Glass Container Corporation in Indianapolis, IN for 18 years. Previously, he was a Coal Miner for Blue Diamond Coal Miners in Blue Diamond, KY for 11 years. He has lived in Indianapolis, IN for 39 years and Bowlingtown, KY for 50 years. He was a member of Indian Creek Christian Church. He was an Honorary Kentucky Colonel & Honorary Mayor of Bowlingtown Kentucky. He also helped raise his siblings.

Lester is survived by his 4 children, Lester (Connie) Bowling Jr. of Mooresville, IN, Estil (Karen) Bowling of Indianapolis, IN, Irene (Kevin) Clemmons of Mooresville, IN & Ben (Tracy) Bowling of Marshall, IL; 10 grandchildren & 12 great grandchildren; 6 sisters, Maltie Woods, Thelma Means, Maureen Campbell, Nannie Jean Baker, Dorothy Willis & Dolly Mae Combs.

Lester is preceded in death by his parents, Woolery D. & Nannie (Couch) Bowling; wife, Virginia (Barger) Bowling and 2 brothers, Fred & Garrett Bowling.

Visitation will be from 4-7pm, Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Jones Family Mortuary. There will also be a 7pm funeral service on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Jones Family Mortuary. There will also be calling from 4-8pm, Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Engle-Walker Funeral Home in Hazard, KY. The funeral service will be at 10am, Monday, December 19, 2011 at Engle-Walker Funeral Home in Hazard, KY. Lester will be laid to rest in Harrison Bowling Cemetery in Perry County, Kentucky.
