Obituary for Kristin J. Amos Youck (Amos)

Kristin "Kris" Jean (Amos) Youck, 63, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday morning after a long battle with breast cancer. Kris was born on July 15, 1952 in Indianapolis to Harry “Bud” Amos and Frances “Fran” Amos.

Kris was the eldest of three girls and a part of a very close knit family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. As a young child, she doted on her grandma Peachey and her aunt Jean. Kris loved swimming at the Krannert YMCA, playing with her family, traveling to Maine, and caring for animals. Kris went to Decatur Central High School where she was a friend and advocate for all, president of the Latin Club, class president, swimmer, and a cheerleader. She established friendships that would prove to be life-long. She was known for her intelligence, quick-wit, loyalty, and compassion. Kris graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1974. While at IU she developed a keen interest in photography and the arts and a love for the music of her generation. After college, Kris enjoyed traveling the country. She lived in Boston and traveled west before settling back down in Indianapolis where she met her future husband, Bill Youck. Kris married Bill at Christ Church Episcopal Cathedral in 1981 where they remained life-long members. They had three children: Kelly, Caitlin and Bill. Kris was a generous, loving, and supportive woman who kept very busy caring for her husband, children and animals. She worked as a paraeducator teaching children with special needs. Some of her proudest “mom” moments were coaching Kelly and Caitlin every day so that they were able to compete at the National Spelling Bee and supporting Billy in his many athletic pursuits.

Kris is survived by her husband, Bill; children: Kelly Anne Youck, Caitlin Allison Calloway (Adam), William "Bill" Henry Youck; mother, Fran Amos; mother-in-law, Barbara Youck and sisters: Kyle (Amos) Franklin (Steve) and Mary (Amos) Weldon (Jim).

Family and friends may pay their respects from 4-8 pm, Friday, February 19, 2016 at Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Christ Church Cathedral, 125 Monument Circle, Indianapolis, IN 46204. Kris will be laid to rest in West Newton Cemetery, Indianapolis.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catherine Peachey Fund, P.O. Box 1823, Warsaw, IN 46581-1823 or FACE Low-Cost Animal Clinic, 1505 Massachusetts Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46201.
