Obituary for Harold L. (Hoop) Hoopengarner

Harold L. "Hoop" Hoopengarner, 63, Martinsville, passed away at home with family by his side on March 15, 2014. Harold was born to Hilton Harlan Hoopengarner and Lucille M. Calhoon on December 19, 1950 in Indianapolis, IN. Harold was a 1969 Decatur Central High School Graduate and attended IUPUI. Harold was an Army Veteran during the Vietnam War. Harold married Dixie L. (Lane) Hoopengarner on September 14, 1996.

Harold "Hoop" was a National Support Technician for U.S. Postal Service for 34 years, retiring in 2013. Hoop was a former member of Eminence Lions Club. He loved cooking, fishing, parties and enjoyed traveling. He has lived in Eminence for 17 years and his birthplace of Indianapolis for 46 years.

Hoop is survived by his wife of 17 years, Dixie L. Hoopengarner of Martinsville; seven children, Jamie Taylor, Marissa Hart, Joann Kukman, Jodie Warthen, Tim Helmick, Anna Hoopengarner and Tyler Helmick; 11 grandchildren, Kameron, Dustin, Devin, Kersten, Siya, Kaden, Colin, Logan, Emma, Tim and Temperance; a brother, JT Hoopengarner and two sisters, Maryellen Morrison and Kay Sevier. Hoop was previously married to Joyce Hoopengarner. Hoop is preceded in death by his parents, Hilton Harlan Hoopengarner and Lucille M. Calhoon and a sister, Myrt Mangus.

Family and Friends may attend calling hours from 4-8 p.m., Friday, March 21, 2014 and 10-11 a.m., Saturday, March 22, 2013 at Jones Crossing Banquet Center, next to Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville. Pastor George Woorley will officiate the 11 a.m. celebration of life service on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Jones Crossing Banquet Center. Hoop will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Greenwood.
