Obituary for Florence A. Guthrie (Brunton)

Florence A. (Brunton) Guthrie, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 31, 2015. She was born to Emmett Tandy Brunton and Florence A. (King) Brunton on November 8, 1927 in Indianapolis. She married Charles Guthrie on February 9, 1946.

Florence was an Indianapolis Police Detective, serving from June 1955 to June 1975 upon which she retired. She has been a member of the local FOP lodge #86 since its inception in 1963. Not really a hobby person, but was so happy with her home life. She enjoyed staying home immensely and loved to cook. Her specialties included chili, pot roast, coney sauce and hot pepper stew. She also became quite good at canning foods, especially her hot peppers. She also developed her ability to crochet and we use her throws to this day! This was self taught and she excelled at this at this surprisingly well, which made her happy. She lived in Indianapolis for most of her life. From 1967 to 1989, she lived and raised her family in Monrovia. She also lived in West Virginia for a few short years shortly after marrying in February 1946.

Florence is survived by a son, Charles Guthrie; a daughter-in-law, Christina Guthrie; a grandson, Axton, all live in Pismo Beach, CA; nieces and nephews, Jesse, Mary, Jack, Tony; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Terrence John Brunton and a sister, Mary Alice Cora.

Father Francis will officiate Florence's celebration of life service at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016 in Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville with calling from noon until time of service. Florence will be laid to rest in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville.
