The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Eugene Bensheimer can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Missed

On Turesday, August 11, 2015, I called Gene and left a message to see if he would go with me to Camp Atterbury for their annual veterans memorial.  I did not know he had left us for greener pastures.

Gene and Novella had a sign over the wall going from their kitchen.  "Do not judge" or something like that.  that is why, in part, I always felt welcome.

Gene was easy to talk to.  I appreciated that he had served our country in World War II, and on the rare occasion the subject came up, the pain of combat returned.  He was always, in my presence, even tempered.

Now, Novella helped raise me, as she had been my family's neighbor since before I was born.

From both I received love, acceptance and concern in their individual ways.  I will always appreciate their effect of their presence in my life.

Rest in peace, my friend.  I only hope to renew our acquaintance when my life is over.
