Obituary for Dillard D. Stanton

Dillard D. Stanton, 87, of Martinsville, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2016. He was born to George Stanton and Adah (Bates) Stanton Goodman on January 1, 1929 in Dugger, IN. He was an Air Force Veteran from 1946 to 1949, being stationed two years in the WWII Occupation of Guam as Staff Sgt, where he was chief mechanic on P47's. He returned to Sullivan County in 1949 and went back to high school graduating from Pleasantville High School in 1950. He married the love of his life, Marilyn (Phillips) Stanton, on December 24, 1950.

Dillard worked for Dale Faith in Lebanon then moved to work for Lake Central Airlines in Indianapolis. He worked for Allison Division of GM for 30.8 years, retiring in 1982 as a Journeyman Machine Repairman. He helped son Dennis farm beginning from 1978 to 2013. He was a member of Bethel Wesleyan Church in Green Township since 1983 and charter member of the Mooresville Free Methodist Church for 24 years. He was a member of the Local Union 933 UAW. When he was 75, he joined the Green Township Fire Department, retiring in 2010. He lived in Martinsville since 1981, Mooresville for 28 years and Dugger for 17 years.

Dillard is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marilyn Stanton of Martinsville; two sons, Dale (Pat) Stanton of Mooresville, Dennis (Judie) Stanton of Green Township; four grandchildren, Joshua Stanton, Jessica (Brian) Friese, Laurel (Adam) Hubbard, Lucas (Courtney) Stanton; five great-grandchildren, Hannah and Hank Stanton, Robby Friese, Brandt and Bree Stanton; two sisters, Agnes Miller of FL, Georgia Roberts of Linton; and a brother, Garland (Margaret) Stanton of Dugger. Dillard is preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, John Goodman: a brother, Dale Stanton, MIA in Italy 1944; two sisters, Eileen Walls, Eunice Juggan; and a great-granddaughter, Emma Joan Stanton.

Pastor David McCarty will officiate Dillard's celebration of life service at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 with calling starting at 11:30 a.m. at Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville. Dillard will be laid to rest in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville.
