Obituary for Daniel L. Havens

Daniel L. Havens, 65, of Mooresville, IN, died October 15, 2008. He was born on August 12, 1943 in Indianapolis, IN to Charles L. and Mildred L. (Rouse) Havens.

He was a 1961 Ben Davis High School Graduate, a 1965 Indiana Central Graduate (BS) and received his Masters from Butler University in 1970.

He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Mooresville, Plainfield Eagles, member of Foxcliff Golf Club and Indiana High School Athletic Association from 1969-1984 for track and basketball.

Before retiring in 2000, he was a teacher and guidance department director for Mooresville High School for 31 years. He was the boys cross country coach for 17 years, assistant track coach for four years and announced high school football games for 28 years. Previously, he was a teacher in Hamilton Heights from 1965-1969, where he started the cross country program and was the assistant basketball coach.

Calling hours will be from 1-5pm before the 5pm funeral service on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at Jones Crossing Banquet Center, next to Jones Family Mortuary.Bill Van Horn will officiate the service.

He is survived by 2 children; David L. (Serena) Havens of Indianapolis, IN, Leigh-Ann (Rob) Glidden of Mooresville, IN; mother, Mildred L. Havens of Indianapolis, IN; special companion, Linda Mason of Atlanta, IN; 1 Brother, Thomas Havens of Elkhart, IN;1 Sister, Judith Perry of Florida; life-long friend, Shadow.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Daniel L. Havens requests donations be made to the Melanoma Research Fund at the IU Simon Cancer Center.
