Obituary for Betty Jane Bird (Cunningham)

Betty Jane  Bird (Cunningham)
Betty Jane (Cunningham) Bird, 92, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2017. Betty was born to Charles and Kathryn (Riedl) Cunningham on January 11, 1925 in Kansas, City, KS. Betty was a 1943 Wyandotte High School Graduate in Kansas City, Kansas. She married William James Bird on July 29, 1945.

Betty was an Executive Secretary for the Tube Mill Department of Bridgeport Brass in Indianapolis for 30 years, retiring in 1987. She is a member of Camby Community Church and past member of Order of the Eastern Star, Big Elbow Lake Homeowners Association in Waubun, MN, and past member and officer of the Decatur Township PTA. She was an active supporter of the Elbow Lake Fire Department and Auxiliary. She loved cooking, sewing, square dancing, fishing and was an avid gardener throughout her life. She lived in the Indianapolis area prior to retiring to their beautiful home on Big Elbow Lake in northwest Minnesota.

Betty is survived by a loving daughter, Connie (Bird) Moore-Altschwager of Camby; a loving son, William J. Jr.(Linda Crawshaw) Bird of Zanesville, OH; five grandchildren, Jennifer Moore (Bill) Cooper of Indianapolis, Cindy Moore (Bill Kingery) of Camby, Ron Jr. (Cheri DePerry) Moore of Plainfield, Laura Bird (Scott) Crates of Findlay, OH, and William J. III (Kelly Hainline) Bird of Painesville, OH; 12 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Tyler Cooper, Maddy Moore, Cody Kingery, Ronnie and Cohen Moore, Molly, Maggie, Luke and Nick Crates, Landon, Blake and Gavin Bird; and a sister, Lois Thomas of Overland Park, KS. Betty is preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband.

Pastor Charles Paxton will officiate Betty's celebration of life memorial service on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Camby Community Church, 8604 Camby Rd., Camby, IN 46113 with a memorial gathering starting at 2 p.m.

The family of Betty Bird would like to thank the staff of Sugar Grove Senior Living, Seasons Hospice and Changes Home Care for their loving and dedicated care of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
