Obituary for John E. Dowden

John E. Dowden, 69, Monrovia, passed away peacefully at home on December 27, 2015. John was born in Linton, IN to Otis H. and Reva N. (Ockerman) Dowden on May 31, 1946. John married Diane (Sinclair) Dowden on August 27, 1967.

John lived most of his life in Monrovia and was a 1964 graduate of Monrovia High School. John continued his education at Indiana State where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Business and marketing. John owned and operated J.E.D. Equipment in Indianapolis for 25 years, Red Top Rentals in Indianapolis since 1990, Dow-Par in Indianapolis from 1983-1989 and was also employed by Reid Holcomb in Indianapolis from 1969-1982. John was a member of the Monrovia Masonic Lodge #654, Murat Shrine, and Gasburg Baptist Church.

John is survived by his wife; 3 children: Cindy (Jim) Dowden of Monrovia, Joni (Jeff) Newlin of Monrovia and John (Megan) Dowden II of Monrovia; 8 grandchildren: Michael Dowden, Jeffery Newlin, Avery Newlin, Emery Newlin, Amelia Dowden, Lydia Dowden, Stella Dowden, and Celia Dowden and cousin, Perry Stone.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday, January 3, 2016 from 3-8 p.m. with Masonic Services at 7:30 p.m. and Monday, January 4, 2016 from 9-10 a.m. at Gasburg Baptist Church, 11564 N. Gasburg Rd., Mooresville. Pastor Jack Elliott will officiate the celebration of life service on Monday, January 4, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Gasburg Baptist Church. John will be laid to rest in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Monrovia. Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville.
