Valerie Ann Bain (Smith)

Valerie Ann Bain, 68, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 16th at home, surrounded by her family, after a short battle with liver cancer.

Valerie was born Thursday, October 18th, 1956, in Indianapolis to Bob and Rosetta (Steinbrook) Smith. She graduated from Mooresville High School with the Class of 1975, where she was a member of National Honor Society and 4H. Before the birth of her children, she was employed as a bookkeeper and secretary. She finished her career at the MSD of Martinsville, where she was an aide for over 10 years before retiring to care for her beloved grandsons. She was also a faithful attendee of St. Mary's Episcopal Church of Martinsville.

The devotion and care that Valerie showed her family was immense. She loved attending each and every event in which her children and grandchildren participated— she was their biggest fan. She also enjoyed traveling with John, her husband of nearly fifty years, and with the many special friends they made along the way. The beach was truly Valerie's "happy place," and she was looking forward to putting her toes in the sand one more time.

She is survived by her loving husband, John Bain, whom she married on July 19th, 1975; her children Joshua Bain (Lorna) of Martinsville, and Jennifer McKinley (Adam) of Trafalgar; grandchildren, Ian and Colin Bain; mother, Rosetta Smith; brother, Vincent Smith; and mother-in-law, Nancy Bain.

Valerie was preceded in death by her father, Bob Smith, and brother, Vance Smith.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, July 24th from 12 to 2pm at Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville. Memorial Services will begin at 2pm, immediately following visitation, with Father Todd Kissam officiating. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
