Ute D. Passey (Wegener)

Ute D. (Wegener) Passey, 87, of Los Angeles, California passed away Friday, July 11th, 2025. She was born July 22nd, 1937 in Cottbus, Germany to her parents Paul Ferdinand Gerhard and Erna Klara (Altnickel) Wegener. She was married to the late Ronald Willard Passey.

Ute is survived by her two sons: Steven R. Passey of Camby and Bruce G. Passey (Shannon) of Kanarraville, Utah; seven grandchildren: Devin Passey (Olivia), Ronald Passey (April), Jacob Passey (Alexia), Caleb Passey, Heather Davis (Parker), Megan Passey, and Joshua Passey; six great grandchildren: Declan Passey, Eleanor Davis, Clark Passey, Addley Passey, Lindee Passey, and Henry Davis; and one step-brother, Klaus Wegener.

Ute is preceded in death by both parents; her husband, Ronald Willard Passey; and brother, Volker Wegener.

Ute graduated from high school in Germany in 1955, embarking on a journey that led her to earn her Master's degree in East German Literature from the University of Southern California in 1977. As a dedicated teacher at Roosevelt High School in the Los Angeles Unified School District, she inspired countless students. Her leadership as District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America earned her the prestigious Silver Beaver Award. Ute also shared her passion for history as a docent at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument. A proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as a temple worker for many years. She found joy in reading, crocheting, attending symphonies and theater productions, and listening to classical music. Throughout her life, Ute was known as an independent, tenacious, and steadfast woman, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.

Family and friends may show their love and support from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, July 16th at Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service. Ute will be laid to rest at a later date at Woodlawn Lawn Cemetery in Santa Monica, California.
