Thomas W. "Tom" Baker, 90, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday, August 1st, 2025. He was born April 22nd, 1935 in Indianapolis to his parents Lyman and Myrtle (Miller) Baker. He married Vera G. (Robinson) on January 20th, 1990.
Tom is survived by his wife, Vera Baker of Camby; four children: David Baker of New Smyrna, Florida, Linda Baker Walton of Lansing, Michigan, step-son Steven Miles of Camby, and step-daughter Ellen Sowers of Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Tom is preceded in death by both of his parents; son, Danny Baker; two brothers: Carrol Baker and Jimmy Baker; and sister, Mary Lou Smith.
Tom, a proud graduate of Southport High School in 1953, went on to earn an associate degree in Engineering from GMI Institute in Flint, Michigan. He dedicated 39½ years of his life as an Industrial Engineer at Allison Transmission in Indianapolis, leaving a lasting impact before retiring. As a member and board chairman of the Indiana Canoe Racing Organization (I.C.R.C.) and a devoted participant in Camby Community Church, he embraced community and connection. Tom thrived in water sports, traveled widely, and officiated Olympic canoe racing across California, New York, Canada, and locally at Eagle Creek Park. His passion for music, small-town festivals, and short hikes reflected his zest for life. He was celebrated as an active individual and an extraordinary father and grandfather, inspiring all who knew him.
Family and friends may show their love and support from 11am to 12 pm on Thursday, August 7th at Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville. A celebration of life service will be held at 12 pm following visitation at the funeral home. Tom will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
