Susan Carole Kern

Susan Carole (Humbarger) Kern, 75, of Camby, Indiana passed away Saturday, May 6th, 2023. She was born on May 14th, 1947 in Beech Grove, Indiana to her parents Earl Archibald and Ena (Hibbert) Humbarger. She married Koby Lee Kern on April 4th, 1971. She was born and raised in Indianapolis, but spent most of her life in Camby.

Susan is survived by her husband, Koby Lee Kern of Camby; three daughters: Kelli Farrar (Tony) of Greenwood, Staci Kern of Bloomington, and Kari Stock (Dr. Joe Stock) of Beth Page, Tennessee; six grandchildren; and one sister, Elsie Norris of Ninevah, Indiana. Susan is preceded in death by both of her parents and her sister, Dorothy Humbarger.

Susan was a 1965 graduate of Tech High School. She later obtained her Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Art from Indiana Central College. Susan was a Teacher in IPS for two years and for 28 years in Perry Township Schools in Indianapolis. She taught at Tech High School, Clinton Young Grade School, Southport Middle School, and Perry Meridian High School. Susan was a member of Camby Community Church, where she was a choir member. She was also a member of I.S.T.A. (Indiana State Teachers Association). Susan loved singing, all forms of art, antiquing, dairy goats, and historic renovations. She hosted exchange students and volunteered for Youth for Understanding International Exchange. She was known as a vivacious woman.

Family and friends may show their love and support from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday, May 11th and from 11 am to 12 pm noon on Friday, May 12th at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. Pastor Brad Long will officiate a celebration of life service following visitation at 12pm noon on Friday, May 12th at the funeral home. Susan will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greenwood.
