Shirley Ann Armstrong Phillips

Shirley Ann (Carter) Armstrong Phillips, 95, of Mooresville, passed away Tuesday, November 7th, 2023. She was born April 17th, 1928 in Indianapolis to her parents John O. and Jeanette (Ferree) Carter. Shirley married the late Marvin Lloyd "Pete" Armstrong in June 1950. She remarried on February 23rd, 1991 to the late Jesse H. Phillips.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Sallie Armstrong of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. Shirley is preceded in death by both of her parents; her first husband, Marvin Lloyd Armstrong; her second husband, Jesse H. Phillips; one daughter, Sheri Armstrong-Conder; and two sisters: Velda Mae Scott and Violet M. Shanklin.

Shirley was a 1946 graduate of Decatur Central High School. She was an Executive Secretary for the Department of Public Instruction for 12 years before retiring in 1993. Shirley previously attended West Newton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, working with flowers, taking cruises, and visiting casinos. She also loved to play cards and was a member of a euchre card club. Shirley was known by many as a one of a kind woman and would never take no for an answer.

Family and friends may show their love and support from 11 am to 12 pm (noon) on Friday, November 10th at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. A celebration of life service will be held at 12 pm (noon) following visitation at the funeral home. Shirley will be laid to rest at West Newton Cemetery in West Newton.
