Ruth W. Phelps

Ruth W. "Nan Ruth" (Ward) Phelps, 91, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at her home and went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2023. Ruth was born in Morgantown, KY on November 15, 1931 to the late William Jesse and Effie Lilburn (Wilson) Ward. She married the love of her life, Bob David Phelps on October 28, 1950.

Ruth worked for NAPA in Data Processing located in Indianapolis for 30 years before retiring in 1994. She was a member of Free Spirit Baptist Church in Indianapolis. She enjoyed spending time outside camping and gardening. Most of all, she loved the Lord and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many people would characterize Ruth as A Ray of Sunshine.

Ruth is survived by two sons: Michael Phelps (Donna) of Indianapolis and Mark Phelps (Roxanne) of Camby; one brother: Archie Ward of Evansville; four grandchildren: Alicia Rodriguez (Juan) of Indianapolis, Mark Aaron Phelps (Jessica) of Martinsville, Jenny Druding (Jake) of Martinsville and Brent Phelps (Amber) of Indianapolis; seven great grandchildren: Hayden, Briar, Ellett, Elliott, Jaxon, Juan and Kennedy.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; husband; one grandson, Graysen; and four brothers: Howard, Thurston, Alton, and Charles Ward.

Family and friends may show their love and support from 4-8pm, Friday, April 28, 2023 with additional visitation from 12-1pm, Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville. Pastor Shawn Smalling will officiate the celebration of life service at 1pm, Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the Funeral Home. Ruth will be laid to rest in West Newton Cemetery next to her late husband, Bob David Phelps.
