Richard Don Powell

Richard Don "Dick" Powell, 83, of Indianapolis, passed away Monday, November 2nd, 2020. He was born August 12th, 1937 in Greenfield to his parents, Raymond and Mildred (Jones) Powell. He married Sharilyn "Sue" (Cranfield) Powell on November 26th, 1971. He lived most of his life in the Indianapolis and surrounding area. Richard is survived by his loving wife of nearly 49 years, Sharilyn "Sue" (Cranfield) Powell of Indianapolis; two children: Brian Powell and Tracey Kaufman; two grandsons: Richard Dean Kaufman and Andrew Scott Kaufman; one granddaughter, Kayla Powell; four great granddaughters; three sisters: Jo Carland, Kathy McIntyre and Nancy Colbertson. Richard is preceded in death by both of his parents and one brother, Frank Powell. Richard was a graduate of Whitestown High School. He later went on and served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for FedEx Express as a package handler for 5 years. Prior to his position with FedEx he worked at Balkamp for 7 years and Davidson Lumbar Company for 45 years. Richard was a member of Whitestown Methodist Church. He enjoyed bowling and actually instructed and helped his wife Sue improve her game. Richard was also an avid golfer. Most people knew Richard as a unique character. He was always telling jokes and he liked to keep everyone on their toes. Family and friends may show their love and support for a visitation from 3 to 6 pm on Sunday, November 8th at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. There are no services at this time. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Mortuary. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Richard's memory to the American Heart Association.
