Richard Eugene "Rick" Neel Jr.

Richard Eugene "Rick" Neel Jr., 66, of Martinsville, passed away Tuesday, July 29th, 2025 at home. He was born October 13th, 1958 in Fairfield, California to his parents Richard Eugene and Emma Jean (Whipple) Neel Sr. Rick married Dorothy Melissa (McKay) Neel on April 27th, 1990 and the two spent 35 beautiful years together.

Rick is survived by his wife, Dorothy Melissa Neel of Martinsville; seven children: Whitney Dean (Seldon), Jonathan Neel, Austin Neel, Jason Tinsley, Ricky Neel (Alisa), David Neel (Dani), and Thomas Neel (Robbi); several grandchildren and great grandchildren; his mother, Emma Jean Neel; three siblings: Sherry Kujala, Stella Slayton, and Debbie Steelman; and mother-in-law, Belva Oliphant.

Rick is preceded in death by his father, Richard Eugene Neel Sr.; sister, Kathy Porter; and brother, Cecil Neel.

Rick was a 1977 graduate of Washington High School in Phoenix, Arizona and later obtained his Associates degree. He served in the Indiana National Guard for 15 years, dedicating his skills as an Electronics Technician for the Federal Civil Service at Stout Field in Indianapolis before retiring in 1999. Rick was a proud member of the American Legion Wayne Post #64. He cherished quality time with his children and grandchildren. His passions included playing golf, fishing, gardening, and supporting IU football. A devoted provider, Rick poured love into his family while embodying a spirit of service to others. He lived life fully, with a great sense of humor that brought joy to those around him.

Richard devoted his life to his family and lived with unwavering love and pride in his role as a father, Papa, and great-grandfather. Richard will be remembered for the strength of his spirit, his quiet generosity, and the deep love he held for those closest to him. His presence was a constant source of comfort and guidance for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who carry his legacy forward in their lives.

Family and friends may show their love and support during visitation from 5 to 7 pm on Saturday, August 2nd at Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville.
