Paula J. McCarns, 57, of Monrovia/Hall for the past 25 years, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Jan. 22, 2015. Paula was born to Robert Charles Slater & Kathryn Ann Giblin on Jan. 25, 1957 in Dixon, IL, where she lived for nearly 31 years. She married Charles "Bill" McCarns on July 17, 2000, but have been together for the past 31 years.
Paula worked in Business Development as a National Sales Associate for American Camp Association in Martinsville for 18 years, retiring in 2015. Previously, she was Owner/Operator of Hall Store and Deli and worked at M & M Mart for several years. She enjoyed going to garage sales, gardening, and just being awesome.
Paula is survived by her husband, Bill McCarns of Monrovia/Hall; mother, Kathryn Ann Giblin of IL; two daughters, Nicole Lee (Smith) Laycoax (George Roots) (Jeremy Laycoax) of Camby; Amanda Jo (Smith) Traut (Leroy Smith) of North Salem; two sons, Scott (Deana) McCarns of TX and Charles McCarns III of CA; 11 grandchildren, Ashlynn Nicole Ratts, Brooke Nicole Laycoax and Brayden Scott Laycoax of Camby, Tyler Andrew Traut and Taylor Jo Traut of North Salem, Kayla McCarns; Casey (Crystal) Clower of TX, Charles McCarns IV of CA, Cassidy McCarns, Carson McCarns and Cody McCarns of CT; two great grandsons, Brady and Blake Clower of TX; 10 siblings, Dianne (Dale) Slater, Rita Jean (Jim) Hermes, Kay (Terry) Mageland, Nancy (Perry) Sommer, Bob (Pam) Slater, Marilyn Slater Robinson, Jim (Char) Slater, Ron (Roxanne) Slater, Jerry Slater, Theresa (David) Smith; two sisters-in-law, Rose (Jimmy) Nardozzi and Lois (Curt) Nash and a brother-in-law, Jerry (Janet) McCarns. Paula is preceded in death by her father Robert Charles Slater; a sister, Virginia Rose Britz; a niece, Roxanne Lynn Johnson; a grandmother, Gladys Giblin; a grandfather, Emmett Giblin and a sister in law, Sharon A. Thomas.
There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering on Friday, February 6, 2015 from 2-8pm at Jones Crossing Banquet Center, next to Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville, IN.
Paula's wishes, which have been carried out, were to have her body donated to medical science.
