It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul Leslie Mehrlich, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world on May 26, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on February 6, 1949, in Indianapolis, to his parents Edgar Wayne and Norma (Hied) Mehrlich.
Paul dedicated his life to serving his community, beginning with his education at Ben Davis High School, from which he graduated in 1967. His commitment to duty led him to proudly serve in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, where he exemplified bravery and dedication.
After returning home, Paul transitioned to a long and fulfilling career at the Marion County Sheriff's Department, where he devoted 27 years of his life as a Deputy Sheriff. His colleagues and the community respected him for his unwavering integrity and tenacity, reflected in his deep passion for law enforcement.
Paul was not just a devoted officer but a loving family man. He cherished his role as a father to his four children: Leslie Nation (Blair), Courtney Jolson (Andrew), Ehrin Mehrlich (Autumn), and David Mehrlich (Tiffany). His love for his seven grandchildren was boundless, and he took great joy in hearing about their adventures and achievements.
A proud member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Indianapolis, Paul found solace and inspiration in his faith. He embraced life's simple pleasures, from his admiration for classic rock music and vintage cars to crafting, painting, and reflecting on scripture. Those who knew him will always remember his warm spirit, kindness, and the way he made everyone feel valued.
Paul is survived by his children, grandchildren, two brothers, James and Jeff Mehrlich, and his sister, Patricia Mehrlich. He is preceded in death by both of his parents, leaving a legacy of love and strength that will forever remain in the hearts of his family.
A memorial gathering and service will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville.
As we gather in remembrance of Paul, we invite all who knew him to come share their stories, their laughter, and their love for a man who dedicated his life to serving others. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love he so freely gave throughout his life.
