Listen to Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Michel Niyongabo, who left this world unexpectedly on May 14, 2026. Born on January 1, 1994, in Democratic Republic of Congo, in Central Africa, to his parents Rukamirwa "Thoms" Rugabisha and Semajambi "Eugenie" Natuza, Michel was a bright light in our lives, known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit.

Michel graduated from St. Michael's High School in Nairobi and later moved to the United States, where he established his home in Indianapolis, Indiana. As a dedicated custodian for Goodwill, he took pride in his work and found joy in making his environment clean and welcoming. Michel was also an active member of Lifeway Indy Free Methodist Church, where his faith and community involvement were sources of strength and comfort to him and those around him.

Michel possessed an adventurous spirit, often seen walking around his neighborhood or riding bikes, soaking in the beauty of life around him. A gifted musician, he found solace in playing the piano and guitar, sharing his love for music with friends and family alike. He was a beacon of generosity, always eager to lend a hand or share a smile with others.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved fiancé, Abigael Utumanseka Nkizingabo; his precious daughter, Noella Mwiza Niyongabo; his parents, Rugamirwa "Thoms" Rugabisha and Semajambi "Eugenie" Natuza; two sisters, Jolie B. Ndakize and Josiane Ishimwe; and his brother, Dani Mugisha. Each of them, along with a host of friends and extended family, will carry on his legacy of love and compassion.

Michel's celebration of life will open up with Praise and Worship at 9 am on Saturday, June 13, 2026 with opening prayer at 9:30 am at Avon Light and Life Church, 8264 East County Rd. 100 South, Avon, IN 46123. His earthly body will be laid to rest in Danville South Cemetery, 515 South Cross St., Danville, IN 46122. Reception and testimonies will follow back at the church from 1:30-4:30 pm.

As we bid farewell to Michel, we take comfort in the cherished memories and the lasting impact he made in our lives. May his spirit continue to inspire us to embrace generosity, kindness, and the beauty of life's moments.
