Melba Jane Wright

Melba Jane (Atkerson) Wright, 80, of West Branch, Michigan passed away Monday, August 16th, 2021. She was born April 8th, 1941 in Lyons, Indiana to her parents, Oren and Martha (Allee) Atkerson. She married the late Darrell Joe Wright on June 7th, 1958. She was a resident of Indianapolis for most of her life and spent the last year in West Branch, Michigan.

Melba is survived by her three children: Janet (Ron) Bentley of Michigan, Deborah (John) Friend of Indianapolis, and Joe Jr. (Tammy) Wright of Indianapolis; 11 grandchildren: Anthony, Sara, Jennifer, John III, Heather, Aaron, Amanda, Nicolas, Jilly, Michelle and Brian; and 32 great grandchildren. Melba is preceded in death by both of her parents; two brothers: Parris "Leon" Atkerson and Clifford Lee Atkerson; and two sisters: Winnona Grimes and Linda Fletcher.

Melba was a homemaker and worked in the cafeteria for Stephen Decatur Elementary School for 20 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Melba enjoyed being outside, gardening and fishing.

Family and friends may show their love and support from 10 to 11 am on Monday, August 23rd at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. An Easter Star memorial service will be held prior to a celebration of life service, which will be held at 11 am following visitation at the funeral home. Melba will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
