Max E. Miller 78, Camby, IN, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Aug. 29. He was born in Attica, IN. He spent most of his childhood and schooling in Columbus, IN. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1945. From a young age, he played softball, both semi-professional and amateur for Linkbelt, Philgas, Moose, Pepsi-Cola and Coca-Cola. He held numerous records for pitching in the Indianapolis area. In 1961, he received the All Sports Award from the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. In 1982, he and his team were inducted into the Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, OK. He was a volunteer firefighter for over 20 years with both Decatur and Wayne Townships, serving as an EMT, Chief of Fire Prevention, Assistant Chief and District 2 Chief. He was an Airframe and Engine Mechanic and private pilot, along with owning several planes. He also enjoyed racing stock cars and sprint cars. He served in the Army from 1950 to 1952 in Fort Benning, GA and Camp Stoneman, CA. He was a founding member of the Green Valley Club, he loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, mushroom hunting, family and his dogs. He was a former member of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church and North Madison Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by sisters, Maxine Miller, Marilyn Miller and Betty Sewell and wife Mary Helen (Ivey) Miller. Survivors include daughter Sherry Klepfer of Crawfordsville, IN; sons Leonard Miller of Camby, Randy Miller of Camby and Ed Miller of Anderson, IN; grandsons Scott Klepfer and Ryan Miller; granddaughters Shannon Klepfer, Onica Miller, Dawn Miller and Tina Tarr. Calling will be on Thursday, September 1, 2005 from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service on Friday, September 2, 2005 in Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville, IN. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood, IN with Billy Gott officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. (billygraham.org)
