Mary Ellen Rink, 97, of Camby, IN, passed away peacefully with family by her side on October 21, 2013. Mary Ellen was born on July 12, 1916 in Camby, IN, where she lived all of her life. She was the granddaughter of Carlos Morgan and Madie Morgan, the founders of Camby, IN. She spent her childhood in and around the Camby Train Station, Post Office and Telegraph Office. As a child, she would throw the switches to change the tracks as the trains and interurban came through Camby. Mary Ellen graduated from Decatur Central High School in 1933, received her teaching degree from Central Normal College and her Masters from Butler University. Mary Ellen (Rand) Rink married J. Don Rink in 1938. Mary Ellen began her teaching career at Speedway High School and spent most of her 37 years of teaching at West Newton Elementary in Decatur Township, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Camby Community Church for over 80 years. she had a tremendous love for sports and enjoyed watching the Colts, IU Basketball and professional tennis and golf. she enjoyed reading and was a member of the Booklovers Club. Throughout her life she belonged to several organizations including the Eastern Star, Camby Ladies Aide, D.A.R., Camby Womens Club, Indiana Retired Teachers Association and enjoyed having lunch with the Lunch Bunch from West Newton Elementary. Mary Ellen is survived by a daughter, Sandra Jeanne (Jack) Bain of Camby, IN; three sons, Dr. Lawrence D. (Ellie) Rink of Bloomington, IN, Stephen C. (Sheila) Rink of Camby, IN and Dr. Richard C. (Kanda) Rink of Zionsville, IN; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Rink of Monticello, IN; 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 1 great, great granddaughter. Mary Ellen is preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Wilma (Morgan) Parsons and Larry Parsons; father, Frances Rand; her husband, J. Don Rink; a son, Joe Morgan "Skip" Rink; a granddaughter, Virginia "Ginger" Ellen Rink and a grandson, Jay Alan Bain. Family and friends may attend calling hours from 2-8 p.m., Friday, October 25, 2013 and 10-11 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Camby Community Church, 8604 Camby Road, Camby, IN 46113. Rev. Charles Paxton will officiate the 11 a.m. celebration of life service on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Camby Community Church. Mary Ellen will be laid to rest in Fairfield Cemetery in Camby, IN.
