Mary L Johnson

Mary L (Holmes) Johnson, 93, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, June 10th, 2020. She was born April 30th, 1927 in Warren County, Kentucky to her parents, Andrew and Nettie (Kitchen) Holmes, where she lived for 14 years. She was a previous resident of Indianapolis for 25 years and Mooresville for 31 years. She most recently lived in Bedford for 3.5 years. Mary is survived by three children: Walter (Debbie) Herndon of Terre Haute, Ruth Anne Hill of Bedford and Mariam (Jeffrey) Murphy of Greenwood; 12 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren. Mary is preceded in death by both of her parents; a daughter, Carol Jones; a great grandson, Joseph Jones III; her first husband, Gilbert Herndon; her husband, Alvin Johnson; three brothers: Carlos Holmes, Doug Holmes and James Holmes; and two sisters: Mamie Meador and Ruby Graves. Mary worked as a Seamstress for Methodist Hospital for 10 years before retiring in 1989. She was a life member of Brooklyn Church of God and also attended Restoration Church of the Nazarene. Mary enjoyed gardening, sewing and crocheting as well as quilting. She also loved cooking, especially for family gatherings. She also loved doing word searches and reading her bible. She loved all babies and old people. Mary volunteered her help in the day care of church. Family and friends may show their love and support from 2 to 6 pm on Sunday, June 14th at Brooklyn Church of God, 8606 N. Country Club Rd, Mooresville 46158. Ken Bushy and Rodney Walker will officiate a celebration of life service that will be held at 11 am on Monday, June 15th at the church. Mary will be laid to rest at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown. In lieu of flowers please contribute in Mary's memory to Restoration Church of Nazarene Day Care, 504 19th St. Bedford, IN 47421.
