Mary Ann Hibler

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Ann Hibler, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, who departed this world on August 15, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on February 7, 1938, in Bloomington, to her parents Herbert H. and Sarah Virgina (Daggett) Edwards, Mary lived a life rich with love, passion, and dedication to her family and community. She married the late Jerry Edward Hibler on August 16, 1958 and the two spent 52 beautiful years together before his passing in 2010.

A proud graduate of Decatur Central High School in 1956, Mary was a vibrant spirit known for her talents as a baton twirler. She further pursued her education at Indiana University, where she was a member of the Red Steppers and nurtured her love for learning and community engagement. Mary's first employement, was at her dad's restaurant, Dog n Sud's that later became Edward's drive-in, where she was a curb girl. For 32 years, Mary along with her son, Greg, owned and operated Hilltop Farms and Equestrian Center, as well as Hilltop Farm's Excavating, a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit and hard work. Most recently, she served as a dedicated secretary for the Decatur Township Fire Department, becoming the first full-time employee to retire from that role.

Mary was an active member of her community, engaging with numerous organizations including the Decatur Central Alumni Association, Eastern Star, and Job's Daughters. As a devoted leader, she cherished her time as a 4-H Club leader and Cub Scouts leader, guiding and inspiring countless young lives. Her passion for gardening was evident in both her home and her involvement with the Garden Club. As a member of Center Church in Indianapolis, she found joy in participating in the church choir, sharing her love of music with fellow congregants.

Mary's warmth, strength, and selflessness defined her character. She was often affectionately referred to as the "Mayor of West Newton," a reflection of her generous nature and the deep connections she forged with those around her. She enjoyed gardening, square dancing, playing bunco and especially cherished moments spent with her beloved family.

Mary is survived by her three devoted sons, Steve Hibler (Nina) of Greencastle, Scott Hibler (Shannon) of Parkton, North Carolina, and Greg Hibler (Lori) of West Newton. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her eleven grandchildren: Alisha Hibler-Carlos (Omar), Lance Hibler, Monica Ann Madsen, Amber Phillips, Cody Wilson, Corbin Hibler, Coden Hibler, Clayton Hibler, Callee Arnold, Alexis Hibler, and Samuel Roos, as well as her cherished great-grandson, William Carlos.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Jerry Edward Hibler, and two brothers William Edwards and Thomas Edwards, who together raised a remarkable family that carries her spirit forward.

Family and friends may show their love and support during a visitation that will take place on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Jones Crossing Banquet Center in Mooresville. Funeral services to honor Mary's life and legacy will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, with a public visitation scheduled at the banquet center at 10:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. Mary will be laid to rest next to her late husband, during a graveside service at West Newton Cemetery in West Newton.
