Mary Lou (Pruitt) Kirk Hawkins, 88, of Monrovia, passed away Sunday, August 4th, 2024. She was born October 9th, 1935 in Hall, Indiana to her parents Luther C. and Jessie (Johnson) Pruitt. She married the late Russell L. Hawkins on December 14th, 1995. She was a resident of Hall, Indiana for most of her life.
Mary Lou is survived by her two daughters: Laura Johnson of Monrovia and Becky Miller of Holland, Michigan; and eight grandchildren: David, Danielle, Cory, Christina, Ben, Bethany, Country, and Nature. Mary Lou is preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, Russell L. Hawkins; and one brother, Wendell Pruitt.
Mary Lou was a 1953 graduate of Monrovia High School. She worked as a Secretary for an insurance company in Indianapolis for three years, a Legal Secretary for the Indiana Attorney General's office for approximately four years, a Private Secretary for the Director of Conservation, as well as a Secretary for a private law firm. Mary Lou later owned her own business, Words Unlimited, as a Court Recorder for about 10 years. She was a member of Monrovia Christian Church. She was very active in women's Republican politics. Mary Lou enjoyed sewing, reading, and writing. Her love of books led her to write four children's books as well as a book of poetry. Mary Lou was known by many to be a patriotic woman who loved God and all people.
Family and friends may show their love and support from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, August 9th at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville and from 10 to 11 am on Saturday, August 10th at Monrovia Christian Church, 710 Gordon Rd, Monrovia, IN 46157. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am Saturday, August 10th following visitation at the church. Immediately following the church service, everyone is welcome to attend the graveside service and burial at Mt. Pleasant at Hall Cemetery in Hall. There will be a dinner at Monrovia Christian Church following the burial.
