Marion Edward McKinney, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on April 23, 1933, in Manchester, Kentucky, to his parents Arthur and Delia (Murray) McKinney, Marion lived a life rich with stories, love, and dedication, residing in Camby, Indiana for many years. He married Ada P. (Benge) McKinney on September 23, 1955 and the two spent nearly 71 beautiful years together.
A proud graduate of Clay City High School in 1953, Marion answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army, where he bravely served during the Korean War. After his military service, he embarked on a fulfilling career as a Freight Agent with Delta Airlines, dedicating 38 years to the industry before his retirement in 1996.
Marion was a man of simple pleasures and industrious spirit. He cherished tending to his garden and taking care of his yard and farm work, finding joy in the beauty of nature. In his younger years, he nurtured a passion for fishing and coaching little league, sharing his love for sports with countless children. Marion found immense happiness in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, as well as enjoying long walks with his dogs and cheering on his favorite team, Kentucky Wildcats. His generosity shone in his willingness to volunteer at polling stations during elections, a testament to his good citizenship and commitment to his community.
Marion was a handyman at heart, often fixing lawn mowers and tackling various projects around the house. His thrifty and quiet nature endeared him to those around him, leaving a legacy of kindness and humility.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Ada P. McKinney of Camby; his four children, Charlene Gail Whitfield (Thomas), Marian Regina Surenkamp, Gerald McKinney, and Gary McKinney (Dawn); six cherished grandchildren: Bridget, Sarah, Erin, Jordan, Austin, and Zachary; seven great-grandchildren; and many extended family members who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Marion is preceded in death by both of his parents, two brothers, Paul McKinney and Cleveland McKinney, and a sister, Dorothy White, who will greet him with open arms.
A private graveside service has been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville.
In this time of mourning, let us remember Marion as a man of dignity, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
