Lester Lee "Les" Fortner, 90, of Camby, passed away Wednesday, June 18th, 2025. He was born November 24th, 1934, in Indianapolis to his parents Clarence Fortner and Emma Violet (Luke) Johnson. He married Catherine "Carole" (Frump) Fortner on March 26th, 2005. He was previously married to the late Shirley Ann (Donahue) Fortner on December 13th, 1952.
Les is survived by his wife of 20 years, Carole Fortner of Camby; three sons: Rex Fortner (Joyce) of Ocala, Florida, Bill Fortner (Mona) of Bargersville, and David Fortner (Pam) of Camby; and seven grandchildren.
Les is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shirley Ann Fortner; one daughter, Pamela Sue Fortner; and several siblings.
Les dedicated 25 years of his life as an electrician at Allison General Motors before retiring in 2000. Throughout his life, he found joy in his community, attending Life Line Baptist Church in Camby. Les had a passion for woodworking and drawing, and he cherished his collection of eagle figurines. His artistic side shone through in his painting, and he had a special love for race cars. He also enjoyed the quiet challenge of crossword and jigsaw puzzles, often losing himself in their intricate details, and he cherished the moments spent traveling.
Those who knew him described Les as a steadfast protector and provider—attributes that reflect his strong-willed, honest, and faithful nature. His legacy is one of dedication and warmth, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to have crossed his path.
Family and friends may show their love and support from 1 to 2 pm on Friday, June 20th, at Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville.
