Ssgt. Killian Vanscott Straber

November 7, 1998 — May 7, 2025

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Killian VanScott Straber, born on November 7, 1998. Tragically he was taken from us on May 7, 2025 in a motorcycle accident, leaving behind a legacy of love, courage and dedication.

Killian grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana; graduating from high school with a Technical Honors Diploma, earned from attending firefighting school. During his senior year he decided to enter the Air Force as a Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) Airman. He completed the TACP schoolhouse in August of 2017 and then started his first assignment at Folk Polk in Louisiana. During this time, he exhibited exceptional dedication graduating from both Army Pre-Ranger and Air Assault Schools. In April 2021 he moved to Fort Wainwright in Alaska. After a deployment to Korea, he continued to excel, completing the Artic Leadership Course and Army Airborne School. While serving he earned his Associate Degree in Business Management. Staff Sergeant Straber started his final assignment in April 2024 at Nellis Air Force Base. There he distinguished himself as a TACP instructor earning his 7-level qualification and achieving instructor status in both the Air Support Operations Center (ASOC) and Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) programs.

Killian's family remembers him as a daring, courageous child. He had no trouble finding new stunts to perform. He enjoyed riding freestyle bikes, practicing parkour, and skateboarding. His parents became accustomed to him coming home with broken bones or needing stitches. None of these injuries ever stopped him from attempting his next big stunt. However, his heart was bigger than his daredevil antics. He was caring and protective of those he loved and had no issue standing up for anyone being mistreated. His love and tenacity fueled the drive that led him to become the Airman and leader he was.

Killian was preceded in death by his father, Sean Straber. He is survived by his mother, Nicole Straber; his sister, Ella Straber; his grandparents; aunts; and uncles. Killian VanScott Straber will be deeply missed by his family, friends and the numerous lives he touched through his commitment to service. His warm, caring nature will never be forgotten.
