Joyce Evelyn Ray, born on July 16, 1934, in Walkerton, to her parents Herrell C. Eisenmenger and Edna (Jones) Gano, peacefully departed this life on February 27, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that will not be forgotten. She married the late Lebert Ray on March 23rd, 1952 and the two spent nearly 59 years together before his passing in 2011.
A proud graduate of Decatur Central High School's Class of 1978, Joyce also pursued her passion for beauty by attending beauty school. For a decade, she dedicated her time as a cafeteria worker for Decatur Township, nourishing the bodies and spirits of countless children and faculty.
Joyce was deeply involved in the community, serving as the Band Booster President at Decatur Central High School, where she nurtured the talents and enthusiasm of young musicians and helped start the concession stands. As a founding member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, she inspired many through her service as a board member and treasurer, later becoming a cherished member of West Newton United Methodist Church.
Known for her vibrant spirit, Joyce delighted in crafting, quilting, playing cards, and games, often sharing the joy of camping with her loved ones. Her friendly, loving, and giving nature endeared her to all who had the pleasure to know her, and she often centered her life around family, embodying the qualities of a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.
Joyce is survived by her beloved son, Larry Ray (Donna) of Clayton; her cherished granddaughter, Cathi Horning (Shawn) of Plainfield; and her three great-grandchildren, Brennan, Eli, and Rylan Horning, who brought her immense joy. She is also survived by her two sisters, Norma Harman of Peru and Mitzie Chisom of North Carolina.
Joyce will be lovingly remembered by many, including dear friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lebert Ray, and her two sons, Terry Ray and Jackie Ray.
A public visitation will take place from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville on Wednesday, March 4th and a second public visitation will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 5th, leading into the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Joyce will then be laid to rest in a graveside service next to Lebert, at West Newton Cemetery in West Newton.
Let us gather to celebrate the life of this remarkable woman whose warmth has touched so many. In our hearts, Joyce Evelyn Ray will continue to shine brightly, and her loving spirit will remain with us always.
