John R. Scheetz III, 74, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday, March 25th, 2022. He was born December 5th, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri to his mother, Patricia (Holdtzman) Hanft. He married Lynn (Marlowe) Scheetz on November 23rd, 1973. He was a previous resident of Kansas City, Missouri for 10 years but resided in Indianapolis for most of his life. John is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Lynn (Marlowe) Scheetz of Indianapolis; two sons: Zachary (Nikki) Scheetz of Indianapolis and Charles (Melissa) Scheetz of Indianapolis; one grandchild, Beverly Kay Scheetz; two brothers: Paul Hanft and Brian Hanft; four sisters: Dianne Zirnheld, Trudy Geisendorf, Lydia Trotter, and Lisa White; and 18 nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by both of his parents: Clyde and Patricia Hanft; and his sister, Beverly Gifford. John was a 1966 graduate of Northwest High School and later attended IUPUI, graduating in 1972 with his Bachelors of Science in Education. He was a Truck Driver for FedEx for 12 years before retiring in 2009. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Indianapolis since 1979. John spent much of his time coaching youth sports, beginning with Youth Football at Greater Eagledale Football Association. He coached baseball, football, and basketball for Decatur Township Youth Sports for many years. John also coached youth bowling for Sport Bowl for the Travelers team. He coached Sheridan High School's Track team for one year. John loved to listen and play music on various instruments. He was a history buff, who enjoyed traveling to historic sites. In his youth, he could be caught paddling his canoe down Sugar Creek, sailing his Hobie Cat at Eagle Creek, or riding his motorcycle down the highway. He was always up for an adventure. Family and friends may show their love and support from noon to 1 pm Tuesday, March 29th at St. Ann Catholic Church in Indianapolis. A mass of the resurrection will be held at 1 pm following visitation at the church. John will be laid to rest at West Newton Cemetery in West Newton.
