John F. Mead, 67 years of age passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2007. He was born May 3, 1940 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Donald J. Mead and the late Gwen (Johnson) Edwards. John married Phyllis (Stotts) Mead September 19, 1959.
John has lived in Monrovia for the past 35 years and in Indianapolis, IN for 32 years. He was a 1963 Graduate of Washington High School. John was a member of the United States Army. He also attended IUPUI for 2 years and was a member of the Monrovia Christian Church. He was a Member and Pastmaster of Monrovia Masonic Lodge #654. Also he was a Member of the Scottish Rite, Indianapolis Valley and the Murat Shrine. He was a Member and Past Commander of Monrovia American Legion, the Monrovia Lions Club, Plainfield Fraternal order of Eagles, and he was the Current President of the Monrovia Board of Zoning Appeals. Before retiring in 1992, he was an Assistant General Manager for Indianapolis Public Transportation for 32 years. He currently, was also a Substitute Bus Driver for St. Susanna and Monrovia Schools.
John is survived by his Wife, Phyllis (Stotts) Mead of Monrovia, IN; 2 Children, Kimberly Nelson of Monrovia, IN and John Kenneth Mead of Mooresville, IN; 3 Grandchildren: Valerie Nelson, Macy and Parker Mead; Mother in law, Audrey Stotts.
Calling hours for John will be from 3-8pm, Friday, September 14, 2007 with a Masonic Service at 7:30pm September 14, 2007 both at Jones Family Mortuary. The funeral will be at 10am, Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Jones Family Mortuary. Kurt Alexander and Jack Elliott will be officiating the funeral service. John will be laid to rest at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Hall, IN. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, and or the Monrovia American Legion Scholarship Fund.
