Joey Harlen "Joe" Koljat

Joey "Joe" Harlen Koljat, 80, of Mooresville, Indiana, passed away Monday, June 2nd, 2025. He was born May 14th, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri to his parents James L. and Geraldine E. (Hand) Koljat. He married the late Susan Kay Robinson on June 24th, 1991.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Julia Stevens (David) of Mooresville; one granddaughter, Jocelyn Shartzer (Hunter Walters) of Greenfield; previous spouse, Stephanie "Stevie" Horton (Jerry) of Shoals, Indiana; his cousin, Joe Koljat of Painesville, Ohio; his Border Patrol family, Armin (Cecy) Loza with daughters Ana, Sofia, Andrea, and Cecy of Detroit, Michigan; step daughter, Erica Jaramillo (Jonathan) of Gig Harbor, Washington; step son, Erik Heftye (Michelle) of Country Club, Missouri; sister-in-law, Shari Hamilton of Roswell; New Mexico; niece-in-law, Teddi Brackeen (Mark) of Roswell; great niece-in-law, Kyra Cash and sons Alan and Arlo of Roswell; and close family friends William and Sylvia Aguilar of Roswell.

Joe is preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife, Susan Robinson; his son, Brian Koljat; and brother, John Koljat.

Joe graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1963. Later, in 1970, earned his Bachelor of Science in Business from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. He worked as a claims adjuster for various insurance companies in Roswell, New Mexico, for over ten years. Then, with his son and wife, started an insurance company called New Mexico Insurance Adjusting Inc. Joe loved playing tennis and once played against the likes of Jimmy Connors and Arthur Ashe. Joe enjoyed tending to his Coi pond, tinkering in the garage, and working on cars. Joe was a loving father and always strived to provide for his children. Many knew him as a hardworking, creative, and determined man. He enjoyed spending time with the buddies at the body shops he frequented for work. He was also an avid dog lover and had many companions over the years, most of whom were rescue dogs.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville.
