Joe C. Thompson Sr.

Joe C. Thompson Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on March 12, 1935, in Indianapolis, to his parents Raymond and Opal Thompson, Joe spent his life serving others, both in his professional career and his personal endeavors. He married Wanda Lee (Wilson) Thompson in April of 1955 and the two have spent 71 beautiful years together.

Joe was a proud graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1953. After many years dedicated to his family, he founded Thompson Insurance Agency, where he worked tirelessly as an insurance agent for over 40 years, building lasting relationships in the Camby and Mooresville communities. He retired in 2023, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service.

A devoted member of the Church of Christ in Mooresville, Joe found joy in community and faith. In his earlier years, he embraced his love for sports. He played basketball with unyielding passion, once trying out for the Indiana Pacers, and was instrumental as the main creator and driving force behind the Mooresville Junior Basketball League. Joe also excelled in tennis, capturing numerous local titles and demonstrating his competitive spirit and love for the game.

Those who knew Joe will remember him for his friendly demeanor, independence, and propensity to lend a hand to anyone in need. His warm presence and generous heart touched countless lives, and he leaves behind a profound impact on all who were fortunate to know him.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda Lee Thompson of Camby; his devoted son, Joe Thompson Jr. (Angela); four cherished grandchildren: Joseph Thomspon III, Jonathan Thompson (Erica), James Thompson (Michelle), and Jordon Duncan (Danny); and seven great-grandchildren: Madalynn, Jacob, Joseph IV, Isaiah, Danny, Ellie, and Fiona. He is preceded in death by his parents; his two sons, Brian and Jamie; and his brother, Raymond.

A memorial service to honor Joe's life will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at the Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville. The day will start with a memorial gathering from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. The memorial service will take place at 1:00 PM, where friends and family will come together to celebrate the extraordinary life of Joe Thompson Sr. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville.
