Janet Elaine Johnson

July 21, 1940 — February 16, 2024

Janet Elaine (McDaniel) Johnson, 83, of Mooresville, passed away Friday, February 16th, 2024. She was born July 21st, 1940 in Bloomington, Indiana to her parents Charles Elmer and Mary "Mildred" (Alexander) McDaniel. She was married to the late Charles Frederick Johnson in April of 1963.

Janet is survived by her two daughters: Mandy Hancock of Greenfield and Lindy Edmondson (Joe) of Hebron, Kentucky; five grandchildren: Chelsea Hancock of Greenfield, Garrett Hancock (Adalyn) of Greenfield, Jenna Hancock-Leisure (Kameron) of Greenfield, Jacob Hancock (Kayla) of Greenfield, and Charlie Edmondson of Hebron, Kentucky; and three siblings: Deniese Smith of Bloomington, Monty McDaniel (Karen) of Avon, and Jo Ann Moore (Joe) of Bloomington. She is preceded in death by both of her parents; and her husband, Charles Frederick Johnson.

Janet was a 1958 graduate of University High School in Bloomington. She later attended Indiana University and graduated in 1962 with her Bachelor's degree in Education. Later in life she furthered her education and received her Master's degree in Education. Indiana University was always near and dear to her heart. Janet worked at MSD of Decatur Township in Indianapolis for 34 years as a Health and Physical Education Teacher. She began her teaching career at Decatur Township High School where she met her future husband. Janet later finished her career working at the Junior High, where she found great fulfillment in teaching and cultivating many great relationships with her fellow teachers and students.

Janet was a member of Brooklyn Christian Church in Brooklyn, Indiana. She took pride in helping with the church's food pantries and helping host church dinners and bazaars. Janet loved spending time in the garden, refinishing furniture, and she was well known for her cooking, especially her rolls and cinnamon rolls. Known by many to have a generous and loving heart, she was always willing to give a hug and lend a helping hand. One of her favorite ways to spend her time with family and friends, was to cook a good meal and to sit around the table for some funny conversations. Janet was a very humble woman.

Family and friends may show their love and support from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday, February 22nd and from 10 to 11 am on Friday, February 23rd at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. Pastor Doug Burns will officiate a celebration of life service that will be held at 11 am on Friday, February 23rd following visitation at the funeral home. Janet will be laid to rest next to her husband, Charles at West Newton Cemetery in West Newton.
