It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James "Tadd" Morgan, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on July 6, 2026, at the age of 82. Born in Vincennes, to his parents Ernest "Ernie" and Myrtle (Beck) Morgan, Tadd grew up to embody kindness, generosity, and a strong sense of community. He married Sharon Jean (Fields) Morgan on February 6, 1965 and the two spent 61 beautiful years together. He spent his formative years in Monrovia, where he graduated from Monrovia High School in 1962.
Tadd dedicated 42 years of his life to Allison Transmission, where he excelled in machine repair, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues before retiring in 2003. In 2013, Tadd and Sharon, embarked on a new adventure opening Morgan's Café in Mooresville, where he shared his love for food and community with all who visited.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Tadd's heart was deeply rooted in service and family. He volunteered as a firefighter in the 1970s and early 1980s, showing unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of his neighbors. Tadd was a cherished member of the Church of Christ in Mooresville, where his faith was a guiding light throughout his life.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Tadd found joy in water and snow skiing, boating, and challenging himself with puzzles-especially crosswords. He had a unique gift for storytelling, often captivating those around him with his dry humor and orneriness. Tadd devoted countless hours to coaching football, softball, and baseball, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of young athletes. He was known for his "You da man, and love ya man." phrases.
Above all, Tadd was the cornerstone of his family, a gentle giant known for his patience and quiet leadership. He was a devoted husband to Sharon Jean Morgan, with whom he shared a life filled with love and laughter. His children, Melina Morgan (Dave Jones), Jason Morgan (Lisa Simmons), and Ashley Martin (Eric), were the pride of his life. Tadd's joy continued to grow with each passing generation, as he adored his family greatly, whose lives he enriched immeasurably. Uncles, aunts, cousins, and a host of friends will forever remember him as a loving figure who naturally attracted children, affectionately known as "Mother Goose."
Tadd is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon; his three children, Melina Morgan (Dave Jones), Jason Morgan (Lisa Simmons), and Ashley Martin (Eric); seven grandchildren, Taylor Morgan, Riley Morgan, Morgan Beaven, Macy Morgan, Garrett Martin, Dawson Morgan, and Grant Martin; five great-grandchildren, Presli, Slater, Riggs, Hayes, and Charlotte, along with a great-grandson on the way; siblings Kenny Morgan (Susan), Linda "Lindee" Morgan, and Ernestine "Beeb" Kasper; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by both his parents, who instilled in him the values of hard work and integrity.
