James (Jim) Houk, 71, of Monrovia, died May 20, 2006. He was born July 4, 1934 to Harlie Houk and Regina (Rohledder) Houk.He was a mail carrier 29 years for the United States Postal Service. He also delivered Hubbard's Feed and Pheiffer Pure Oil and was also a bus driver and mechanic. He was one of the first Pee-Wee football and baseball coaches in Monrovia, some people knew him as "Thirsty." He loved stockcar and boat racing. He was a 1952 graduate of Monrovia High School and member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Mr. Houk served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include wife Mary (White) Houk of Monrovia; four children, Tim (Jennifer) Houk of Martinsville, Michael (Denise) Houk of Indianapolis, Becky Houk Brown of Monrovia, Melissa Houk of Monrovia; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; mother Regina Houk of Martinsville; brothers Ray Houk of Martinsville, John Houk of FL., Tom Houk of WI., Tony Houk of Monrovia; sister Theresa Garner of Martinsville.
Services will be at 10am, Thursday, May 25, 2006 in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Mooresville. Calling will be from 3 to 8pm, Wednesday, May 24, 2006 in Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hall, IN. There will be a prayer service at 9:30am, Thursday in the funeral home, prior to the Mass at 10am in St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
