James Richard "Jim" Dodds, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday, January 31st, 2024. He was born January 6th, 1939 in Indianapolis to his parents Ancil Wray and Naomi Ruth (Sellars) Dodds. He married Linda Elaine (Finn) Dodds on August 27th, 1966.
Jim is survived by his wife, Linda Elaine Dodds of Indianapolis; one son, James S. Dodds (Heather) of Franklin, Kentucky; one daughter, Carmen Bullock (Andrew) of Mooresville; seven grandchildren: Jenna Olson (Cameron) of Fishers, Jake Dodds of Ellettsville, Kylie Pedigo of Mooresville, Kamryn Steward of Mooresville, Luke Bullock of Kentucky, Silas Bullock of Mooresville, and Micah Bullock of Mooresville; one great grandchild, Vinny Olson of Fishers; and one brother in-law, Ray Boston. Jim is preceded in death by both of his parents; two brothers: William "Bill" Dodds and Donald "Donnie" Dodds; and one sister, Ruth Ann Boston.
Jim was a 1957 graduate of Ben Davis High School. He later joined the United States Marine Corps and discharged Honorably in 1962 as a Corporal. Jim was an Inspector for Allison Transmission in Indianapolis for over 30 years before retiring in 1991. After retirement, he helped his son, Jimmy run the masonry business, Dodds Masonry, for 15 years. Known for his saying "It will all work out," Jim was a selfless, accepting, compassionate, easy-going, fun-loving man. He was a member of Westlake Community Church in Indianapolis. Jim enjoyed fishing, traveling, golf, spending time with his family, and supporting his grandchildren in their activities.
Family and friends may show their love and support from 2 to 7 pm on Sunday, February 4th and from 10 to 11 am on Monday, February 5th at Jones Crossing Banquet Center in Mooresville. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am following visitation on Monday, February 5th at the banquet center. Jim will be laid to rest at West Newton Cemetery in West Newton.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jim's memory to any Mooresville Athletic Department for Middle School or High School.
