James Martin Casey

James Martin Casey, 74, of Martinsville, passed away Thursday, January 25th, 2024. He was born November 10th, 1949 in Indianapolis to his parents James Arthur Casey and Addie Pearl (Winn) Sharp. He married the late Sharon Jane Casey on July 17th, 1982.

James is survived by his daughter, Melody Smith of Martinsville; two sons: Richard Smith of Martinsville and Mike Smith (Loretta) of Linton; daughter-in-law, Tammie Hovious; son in law, Larry Balsley; 11 grandchildren: Cheyenne Lewis of Martinsville, Seirra Smith of Martinsville, Miranda Smith of Paragon, Lana Smith of Martinsville, Bailey Smith of Martinsville, Allisha Lewis of Ellettsville, Bub Smith of Paragon, Weston Smith of Martinsville, Ricky Casey of Martinsville, Caitlyn Smith of Bloomington, and Gavin Smith of Linton; 16 great-grandchildren; and three brothers: Dennis Casey (late, Greta) of Indianapolis, David Casey (Ronda) of Indianapolis, and Jimmy Casey of Mooresville. James is preceded in death by both of his parents; and one daughter, Angela Balsley.

James worked as a Maintenance Technician at IUPUI for more than 30 years before retiring. He was a member of the Speedway Conservation Club. James enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and going to car shows. He was known by many as a funny, comical, kind, and give you the shirt off his back kind of man.

Family and friends may show their love and support from 11 am to 1 pm on Wednesday, January 31st at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. A celebration of life will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, January 31st following visitation at the funeral home. James will be laid to rest next to his wife, Sharon Casey, at White Lick Cemetery.
