Howard D. Welker Jr., 79, of Mooresville, passed away peacefully as he went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2018, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 13, 1938 to Howard and Inez (Call) Welker in Hurricane, WV. He honorably served in the US Navy. He married Shirley A. (Sowards) Welker on March 4, 1961.
Howard is survived by three loving children, Sandy (Jim) Kovach of Columbus, Robert (Tracy) Welker of Martinsville and Kenny (Christy) Welker of Martinsville; seven grandchildren, Katelin Kovach, Chris, Elijah, Evie, Lena and Karina Welker, and Sophie Merriman; three brothers, J.W., Billy and Ron Welker; and two sisters, Eloise Guthrie and Betty Jane Cummings. Howard is preceded in death by his parents; wife; two granddaughters, Abigail Ann and Victoria Ann Welker; two brothers, Jim and Darryl Welker; and two sisters, Clarice Ann Lawson and Phyllis Ball.
Before retiring in 1998, Howard was a Truck Driver for Holland Trucking for 10 years and previously Transcon for 25 years. He was a member of Life Tabernacle Church in Indianapolis and Teamsters union Local #135. He lived in Mooresville for the past 55 years and grew up in Hurricane, WV. He was an a man of honor and loyalty and always worked hard to provide for his family.
Family and friends may gather to pay their respects from 2-3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1st in Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville, with Pastor Danny McAdams officiating Howard's celebration of life service at 3 p.m. Howard will be laid to rest in White Lick Cemetery.
