Gwenolyn Kay Allen

Gwenolyn" Kay" (Persinger) Allen, 71, of Waverly, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2018 with her loving family by her side. She was born on March 27, 1947 to Opal Persinger and Robertine (Mize) Stropes in Salem. She graduated from Mooresville High School in 1965. She married Donnie G. Allen on July 21, 1973. Kay is survived by her loving husband of nearly 45 years, Donnie Allen of Waverly; two loving children, Brent (Tammy) Allen of Camby and Niki (Patrick) Donaldson of Mooresville; loving mother, Robertine Stropes of Mooresville; five grandchildren, Brayton and Bryce Allen; Shelby and Taylor Andersen, Logan Donaldson; and a sister, Erma Sizemore. She is preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Donald "Duck" Persinger. Kay worked for Western Electric for 18 years and also worked in the family lawn care business. She enjoyed collecting elephants, pottery and miscellaneous antiques along with attending auctions and garage sales to find treasures for the grandkids. In her spare time, she enjoyed sitting on the porch with her dog, BJ, watching her humming birds and attending to her flowers. She lived in Waverly for most of her life. Family and friends may attend calling hours from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, May 21st and 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22nd in Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville. Pastor Chris Page will officiate Kay's celebration of life service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22nd in Jones Family Mortuary. Kay will be laid to rest in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Waverly.
