Listen to Obituary
Glenna R. (Cox) Goforth was ushered into the Presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Sunday morning November 24, 2013. She was born July 24, 1930 in Indianapolis to Glenn O. Cox and Ella M. (Bell) Cox and was a lifelong Indiana resident. After attending Arsenal Technical High School she later enrolled at IUPUI Indianapolis where she completed studies in accounting. In 1949 while working at the State Office Building for Governor Ed Witcomb, she caught the eye of a co-worker, former Navy officer, Harold Goforth, who was on July 2, 1949 to become her husband. Theirs was a marriage that spanned 62 years until January 18, 2012 when he preceded her in death. When her sons reached school age, she returned to the workforce as a township social worker and later as a Problems Resolution officer for the Internal Revenue Service. Glenna enjoyed making baby quilts, which she personally presented to the parents of newborns in her church. Sometimes multiple generations of a family were to be the benefactors of her gifts. While there were many noteworthy events in her life, none were as important to her as the day in 1965 when she put her complete trust in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. The love from that relationship was a light that was visible to those near her. She was an active member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Mooresville for over 40 years. Siblings include Billy Cox (deceased), Genevieve Lopez (deceased), Vernon Cox of Painted Post, New York, Kenneth Cox of Dunnellon, Florida and Steven Cox of Lake Stevens, Washington. Children include Howard F. Goforth of Stockton, California, David L. Goforth of Indianapolis, Indiana, Philip N. Goforth of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Nathan A. Goforth of Marysville, Washington, Rena Dawn Hatfield (deceased) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Paul W. Goforth of Augusta, Kansas. Glenna was Grandmother to thirteen children and Great grandmother to ten. Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made in Glenna's memory to Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 1150 State Road 144, Mooresville, Indiana 46158. Friends and family may attend calling hours from 3-7 p.m., Friday, November 29, 2013 at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville, IN and 10-11 a.m., Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 1150 St. Road 144, Mooresville, IN.
