George David Colvin Jr.

November 15, 1929 — November 24, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of George David Colvin Jr., who left this world on November 24, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on November 15, 1929, to his parents George David and Rowena (Padgett) Colvin in Indianapolis, Indiana, George lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a passion for serving others. His unwavering spirit and zest for life were evident to all who knew him.

George was a proud graduate of Shortridge High School, class of 1948. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on January 17, 1951, where he served his country with honor and distinction, achieving the rank of Corporal before his discharge in 1954. His commitment to service continued throughout his career as a Signal Maintainer for the Railroad, a role he dedicated himself to for 43 years before retiring in 1989.

A man of deep faith, George was an active member of Belleville Bible Church and previously the Monrovia Christian Church, where he served as both an elder and a deacon. He cherished his time in the men's choir, where his love for music harmonized beautifully with his many talents. An artist at heart, George was a gifted painter, woodworker, carver, carpenter, and masonry enthusiast. His love for music extended to playing the violin and harmonica, bringing joy to those around him.

George found solace in the great outdoors, where he loved to hunt, trap, and spend time in his yard, nurturing his garden while enjoying the company of hummingbirds and squirrels. A member of the NRA, he took great pleasure in attending deer camps and sharing countless stories with his family and friends. Known for his charm, George had a knack for turning simple conversations about weather patterns into memorable exchanges.

His family was his pride and joy. He is survived by his son, David Michael Colvin, and daughter-in-law Vicki Colvin of Monrovia; his grandchildren: Joel Cooke (Lish), Heather Clay (Jeremy), Jacob Cook (Beth), and Ryan Colvin (Brittany); ten great-grandchildren; and his loyal canine companion, Lilly. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Ann Colvin; his daughter, Cathy Cook; his brother, Robert Colvin; and both of his parents.

Family and friends may show their love and support from 12 to 1 pm on Monday, December 1st at Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville. A celebration of life service will be held following visitation at 1 pm at the the funeral home. Following the ceremonies, George will be laid to rest at Mount Pleasant at Hall Cemetery in Hall, Indiana.
