Listen to Obituary

Frances Peachey Amos, 89, died Monday, October 10, 2016 in her home in Camby. Fran was born September 28, 1927, to Ida May and Henry Charles Peachey. She is preceded in death by both parents; her husband of 53 years, Harry A. Amos; daughter, Kristin J. Youck; sister, Dorothy Jean Farmer; brother James Henry Peachey; as well as niece, Catherine Peachey Metzger; and nephew, Ralph Farmer.

Fran lived in Indianapolis or Camby most of her life and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1945. She attended Indiana University and was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority.

As a lifelong member of Christ Church Cathedral, Fran served in many volunteer capacities over the years, including as senior warden of the vestry, Sunday School teacher and 30 years’ participation in CCC’s annual Cathedral Women’s Strawberry Festival. She was chairwoman of the latter for a number of those years. In addition, she was a founding lay member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Plainfield, wearing many hats during her time there.

In her professional and community life, Fran was very well respected and widely admired as a businesswoman and local leader, who spent a majority of her life in the banking industry. She retired from Indiana National Bank (Chase) in 1992 as vice president and manager at the Valley Mills branch, having started in 1943 as a messenger, working half days in a Tech High School program. Fran was married in 1947 and in 1952 became one of the original employees at the first INB branch at 38th Street and Washington Boulevard. In 1957, she “retired” to raise her children, becoming active in PTA (serving three terms as president), Campfire Girls and other activities related to the lives of her children. In 1972 she returned to work for INB at the Valley Mills branch in Decatur Township. She soon increased her involvement in the community, serving on numerous local committees and assuming leadership roles including as chairman of the land management and development committees for Decatur Township Civic Council, president of Decatur Township Business Association, as well as member and past president of Dollars for Scholars.

In her personal life, Fran was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She attended every possible sporting and school event, from awards ceremonies to graduations for each of her nine grandchildren. She left a legacy of love, commitment and devotion to her entire family, including all of her nieces and nephews, many of whom regarded her as their second mother.

Fran is survived by her two daughters, Kyle (Steve) Franklin and Mary (James) Weldon; son-in-law, William Youck; nine grandchildren: Kelly Youck, Evan (Chad) Garrapy, Caitlin (Adam) Calloway, Nicholas (Dawn) Weldon, Alex Franklin, Bill Youck, Libby Weldon, Zachary Weldon and Jack Weldon; one great-grandson, Xavier Weldon, another great-grandchild on the way; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
