Evelyn Mcgowen

Evelyn (Gates) McGowen, 90, of Hamilton, OH, passed away peacefully with family by her side on April 27, 2016. She was born to Aaron Gates and Ruth (Minnick) Cardinal on November 7, 1925 in Indianapolis. She married Roy McGowen on December 7, 1946.

Evelyn was a homemaker. She attended Mooresville Free Methodist Church. She was a big fan of NASCAR. She enjoyed reading and southern gospel music. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She lived in Mooresville for most of her life.

Evelyn is survived by four children: Dixie Wagoner of Martinsville, Kimberly (Harold) Goldsberry of OH, Timothy (Joette) McGowen of OH and Michael (Lisa) McGowen of Plainfield; 9 grandchildren: Pam, Shannon, Pat, Kellie, Kristie, Jeremy, Mindy, Brendan and Adam; 15 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Hoadley and Nylice Findley. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband: a son, Jack McGowen; two grandchildren, Connie and Joy; and a brother, Chuckie Gates.

Family and friends may gather from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2016 and 10-11 a.m. on Monday, May 2, 2016 in Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville. Pastors John Lefler and Jeff Newton will officiate Evelyn's celebration of life service at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 2, 2016 in Jones Family Mortuary. Evelyn will be laid to rest in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.
