Eveline Degroot, a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, peacefully departed this life on November 3, 2026 in Mooresville. Born on May 30, 1923, in Indianapolis to her parents Donald Julius and Alice (Vandyke) Degroot, she lived a full and vibrant life that spanned over 103 years, leaving cherished memories with all who knew her.
Eveline was a proud graduate of Avon High School in 1941 and later pursued an Associate's degree in Accounting from Indiana Business College. For more than four decades, she dedicated herself to the Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance Center as an Accounting Specialist. Her unwavering commitment to her work and her community was evident in her nearly 50-year membership in the Eastern Star and her life long active participation in the Indiana Federation of Business and Professional Women of Hancock County.
A devoted member of the Franklin Central Christian Church, Eveline found joy in her faith and community. She was known for her independent spirit and her love for life, often spending her free time immersed in books, enjoying the symphony, or traveling with family and friends to create lasting memories collecting trinkets from all the places she had visited.
Eveline leaves behind her beloved brother, Jacob Degroot, and a host of nieces and nephews who adored her: Don Stapert, Tom Bradley (Susan), Jan Wright (Joe), Mary May (Butch), and Bob Stapert (Stephanie), alongside several great-nieces and great-nephews who will carry forward her legacy of love.
She was preceded in death by both her parents, her son, Phillip Farris, and four dear siblings: Alberta Bradley, Pauline Stapert, Donald "Bud" Degroot Jr., and Florence Via. Their memory, along with Eveline's indomitable spirit, will remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
Eveline's life will be honored with a Funeral Service on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville, along with a Eastern Star service. A public viewing will take place from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville.
In lieu of flowers, you may donate in Eveline's memory to a charity of your choosing.
In her passing, we remember Eveline not only for the legacy she leaves behind but also for the warmth and kindness she shared with all who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in eternal peace.
