Emma Leota Skomp, 100, of Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010.
Born September 29, 1910, in Putnam County, Emma was the daughter of John H. and M. Alice Girton Landes.
She attended elementary school at the former West Union School in Putnam County. She graduated from Van Buren High School in 1929 and attended Indiana State College in Terre Haute for a time.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Rolland E. Skomp. Also, preceding her in death were her parents and four sisters and two brothers. Survivors include siblings, Virgil Landes (Mary) and Albert Landes and five children, Wilma Jean Brown (Lewis), Erma Jones, John Skomp (Elizabeth), Robert Skomp (Carolyn), Linda Pitmon (Raymond), and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ her entire adult life.
Emma enjoyed cooking as a hobby and career. She was employed by West Newton Elementary School, Decatur Central High School, Happy Hollow Camp, and Sears Roebuck, in the food service areas. She also had her own baking business, making and decorating cakes.
Calling hours for Emma will be from 4-8pm, Wednesday, November 10, 2010 and from 9am-10am, Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville, IN. The funeral will be at 10am, Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Jones Family Mortuary. She will be laid to rest at West Newton Cemetery.
