Edward L. Hunter Sr., 84, of Quincy, passed away Monday, May 13th, 2024. He was born October 6th, 1939 in Indianapolis to his parents John Edward and Dorothy Frances (Hood) Hunter. He was married to the late Ruby "Judy" Hunter for 31 years. He was previously married to Evonda Joy Moore and the late Vera Jean Hunter.
Edward is survived by his six sons: Edward Hunter (Sheri) of Camby, Mark Hunter (Cheryl) of Indianapolis, Willard Jones (Maryann) of Coatesville, William "Bill" Jones (Mary) of Kentucky, Dwayne Jones (Diana) of Martinsville, and Kevin Jones (Michelle) of Quincy; 16 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
Edward is preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife, Ruby "Judy" Hunter; his previous wife, Verna Jean Hunter; one brother, Robert Hunter; and one sister, Patricia McGovern.
Edward attended Harry E. Wood High School in Indianapolis. He was Owner and Operator of Ed Hunter's Refuge Removal, which was handed down through three generations. Edward later on worked for the City of Indianapolis, where he retired as a Certified Welder in Fleet Maintenance. He attended Hoosier Harvest Church in Martinsville. Edward loved spending time with his dog, Kai. He once played music with George Jones in Fountain Square. He also enjoyed fishing and riding motorcycles when he was younger. Edward was known by many to be an incredibly strong and powerful man. Being a very patriotic man, one of his special achievements was being able to recite the Gettysburg Address and the Preamble to the Constitution.
Family and friends may show their love and support from 4 to 8 pm on Monday, May 20th and from 10 to 11 am on Tuesday, May 21st at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, May 21st following visitation at the funeral home. Edward will be laid to rest at Olive Cemetery in Paragon.
